Our Lenten Lessons
Most people have heard of the Seven Words from the Cross,
and have probably attended Good Friday services where those
sayings of Jesus were the focus of the service.
We’ll have one here in our sanctuary
during the first week of April, God willing.
The Six Great Ends of the Church are lesser known.
They are a part of our Presbyterian heritage,
a part of what makes us who and what
we are as a church, and as a denomination.
Those Great Ends of the Church are the focus
of the Lessons at the 12 noon Lenten Luncheons
which began on Tuesday, February 24,
and will continue through April 1.
The Great Ends of the Church are:
1-The proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind;
2-The shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;
3-The maintenance of divine worship;
4-The preservation of the truth;
5-The promotion of social righteousness; and
6-The exhibition of the kingdom of Heaven to the world.
Luncheons will be prepared and served by the Presbyterian Women’s Circles,
except for March 31, which will be the Presbyterian Men’s Luncheon Day.
